The five elements
五行是什么
Everything in a BaZi chart is written in these five: wood 木, fire 火, earth 土, metal 金, water 水. Each of your eight characters belongs to one of them — and what matters most is how they sit together.
命盘里的一切都落在这五个字上：木、火、土、金、水。你的八个字各有归属，真正重要的是它们怎么相处。
The generating cycle — support
相生：资源
Wood feeds fire, fire becomes earth, earth bears metal, metal gathers water, water nourishes wood. This is the generating cycle (相生): each element gives something to the next. Think of it as the support system of the chart.
木生火、火生土、土生金、金生水、水生木——这就是相生：每个元素都给下一个提供养分。可以把相生理解成命盘里的资源链。
The controlling cycle — tension
相克：张力
Wood parts earth, earth dams water, water quenches fire, fire melts metal, metal chops wood. This is the controlling cycle (相克): each element checks another. Not good or bad — just structure. Too much control is pressure; a little is discipline.
木克土、土克水、水克火、火克金、金克木——这是相克：每个元素都制约另一个。没有好坏，只有结构：克过了是压力，克得恰当是约束。

解读里用在哪
In a Sōngyǐn reading, the five elements appear as themes — your Day Master’s element, the climate of your month, the balance of support and tension across the chart. A chart heavy in fire reads differently from one heavy in metal, not because one is luckier, but because the climate is different.
在 Sōngyǐn 的解读里，五行以「主题」出现——日主的元素、月令的气候、全盘生克是否平衡。火旺的盘和金旺的盘读起来不同，不是因为谁更走运，而是气候不同。
A language of relationships, not fortune
是关系的语言，不是吉凶的判词
The five elements describe how things relate — support, tension, balance. They don’t hand you a verdict. A chart describes a climate; what you plant in it is still yours.
五行描述的是关系——支持、张力、平衡。它不给你下判词。命盘描述气候，种什么，仍然由你决定。
